Woodhall community hall giving away festive T-Shirts to all attendees of this year’s Fayre

Following a quieter few years in the community, Woodhall community hall has promised freebies for everyone in attendance… as long as they're on the nice list.

Following a quieter few years in the community, Woodhall community hall has promised freebies for everyone in attendance… as long as they’re on the nice list.

Woodhall community centre of Welwyn Garden City will be once again running a local Christmas Fayre for the people of the surrounding community on November 30th. What makes this year’s event extra special is what the community centre will be offering back to its citizens. Along with a festive night under the Christmas lights and enjoying a hot chocolate, fayre-goers will be taking home a free T-shirt to style all season. This is part of the organisers plans to increase attendees after drops due to covid-related issues over the past two years. We spoke to one of the centre’s receptionists, Cara Bond, about helping coordinate parts of the evening and what she thinks the freebies will benefit.

`We’re looking to make this year extra special after recovering from a few years without one and we thought what better way to maintain the momentum from last year than to give free gifts to everyone.

The aim of our scheme is to remind people that community events are worthwhile. With less and less attendees throughout the year, it’s essential we go big at Christmas to re-enlighten the value of community ran shows’

We also heard from events manager, Lizelle Du Plessis, regarding her hopes for the event/giveaway. Lizelle is working with Woodhall community centre as a resident of Welwyn Garden, who believes more should be done to bring the people together. Whilst the world is progressing in all sorts of aspects, Lizelle believes that the smaller and more closely fitted communities are struggling. With lesser turnouts at previous Woodhall hall events, the aim is to see community fairs and anything similar back on the community calendar in Welwyn.

‘I personally think this is a great step forward for the Woodhall community as it will hopefully bring people back. It’s been a tricky few years and it is essential that our events keep their sustainability in a changing world’
