A robot developed at the University of Lincoln has been leading tours at The Collection museum in the heart of the city.
Between November 23 and November 30, as part of EU Robotics Week, visitors to the museum can interact with the robot as part of guided tours.
Linda is one of six robots developed to operate independently for short periods of time and is part of the £7.2 million STRANDS project named Lindum Colonia. The project is funded by the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme.
During Linda’s time at the museum, Linda will also be collecting data to help her developers make her more robust in the future. This data will include how people move around her and which routes are safe and fast to take.
Last year, as part of EU Robotics Week 2013, Linda and other robots competed in a ‘robot marathon’ to see which could run for the longest time as well as cover the most distance.
The technology developed through the STRANDS project was also showcased at the Natural History Museum during the summer and Linda was chosen to mingle with visitors as part of Universities Week 2014, a campaign which aims to increase public awareness of the wide and varied role of UK universities.
