Following other businesses who have taken action to support the Ukrainian crisis, The Geek Retreat, a café in the city of Lincoln, pledged to raise money to help the people of Ukraine.
The café created its own milkshake called the ‘Sunflower Shake’, which resembles the yellow and blue colours in the Ukrainian flag.
All of the proceeds from the shake will go towards the Sunflower of Peace Charity, a non-profit charity helping the Ukrainians affected by the crisis.
Owner Mal Robertson-Turner, spoke to us about how their fundraising was going, and how much money they’ve raised so far.
He said: “People have been really generous and just chucking the odd tenner in and donated to the cause, we’re going to count the total soon.”
They have previously said that they will make the shake for as long as the conflict is going on, and until the charity reaches its target.
Roisin Byrne is a customer who regularly comes to the café and spoke about what she thought about the new Sunflower Shakes, she said: “It’s good to see people and businesses across Lincoln doing their bit to help Ukraine.”
Along with this, there will be a Lincoln parkrun this Saturday, held in Boultham Park at 9am, and is free-to-go 5k event.
The parkrun has been organized as part of the ‘University of Lincoln Takeover Day’, through which students and the community will come together to raise money for the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.
