Today we are celebrating the World Water Day

Water is one of the building blocks for life.

In 2010, safe water has been recognized by the UN as a human right as they state it as “essential for the full enjoyment of life and all human rights.”

Wordlwide, 2.1 bilion people have no access to safe water.

Therefore, the UN set a target to enable everyone access to safe water by 2030.

Still in 2019, discrimination is an issue, even in linked with water. Women, children, refugees, indigenous peoples, disabled people and many others suffer from discrimination when trying to access safe water.

The issue of unclean water is very serious, over 700 children under the age of five die from diarrhoea due to unclean water every day.

But what can we do to help the UN with this issue?

We have contacted Student Life from Lincoln University and asked how they are raising awareness between students about this issue.

In a statement, Josh Brown, Video Development Co-ordinator at Student Life, said:

“At Student Life we’re passionate about encouraging students to be more eco-friendly are always commissioning content which does this. Our vloggers and filmmakers have made some great videos which are all about being greener. One of these tips was the ‘2 Song Shower Challenge’, which encouraged students to time their showers to only last the duration of two songs. Fun and engaging tips like this are a great way to change students behaviour and make the student population that little bit greener.“
