The SLUG – Save Lincoln Usher Gallery – Campaign group marched through Lincoln city centre on Saturday to protest against Lincolnshire County Council’s plans to close the Usher Art Gallery.
The march started at the Cornhill, before making its way up the High Street and Steep Hill to Castle Square and then finally to the Usher Art Gallery.
Thousands of Lincolnshire residents have already voiced their concerns over the future of Lincoln’s Usher Gallery, with over 3,600 signatures on an online petition.
The groups Facebook page and Twitter encourages people to sign the petition and take part in the consultation before the closing date of 24 April 2019 at noon.
Karen Lee, Lincoln MP, also shared her support to save the gallery last month by tweeting:
We must ensure Lincoln’s Usher Art Gallery doesn’t close. Central Government cuts mean that budget holding @LincolnshireCC is cash strapped but this Gallery should be prioritised. I’m backing this Campaign & working alongside others like Lord Cormack to #SaveUsherArtGallery https://t.co/Eh8DPNbvUn
