Batemans Brewery at Wainfleet All Saints is home to Lincolnshire’s most recognisable tipple, Bateman’s beers.
Founded in 1874 by george Bateman, the brewery moved to its current site at Salem House in 1880 and then expanded to take in an abandoned windmill – now the company’s logo.
The brewery also owns many pubs across Lincolnshire and the East Midlands, all of which sell their trademark XB and XXXB ales.
The brewery boasts a visitor centre, as well as a bar and restaurant, and give regular guided tours of the brewery itself.
In 1985 the latest George Bateman fought a bitter (no pun intended) family battle, in opposition to his brother and sister who wanted to sell off the company. George Bateman was victorious and the brewery remains proudly independant to this day.
LSJ News spoke to Martin Cullimore, who is currently the head brewer for the family.
