A financial blunder caused by the student union means sports and society groups are facing major cuts this year.
A mix up with accounts over the summer has resulted in the merging of the two prominent social groups, and many students feel societies are being overlooked with the main focus falling on sport. Steven Jackman, president of the Japanese Anime Society (JAMS), has criticised the new formation, claiming societies are being “trampled underfoot”. Jackman claims his society had £600 disappear from the accounts and the only reason it can continue to function is from ‘previous experience’.
The conflict between both the sports and society groups is still on going, but with tight budgets there is little Andreas Zacharia, VP for Activities can do to please everyone at this stage.
