Social media has been essential in the NFL’s surge in popularity in Britain, according to BBC Radio Humberside Sport commentator Mike White.
White, who attended Sunday’s game between the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons at Wembley, believes it is much easier for people to keep up in this day and age.
He said: ‘’As someone who grew up watching in the 1980s when it was a highlights show on Channel 4 on a week delay, I am amazed at where the sport currently stands this side of the Atlantic.
‘’The main reason for that, I believe, is the emergence of the internet and social media.
‘’There wasn’t any access to the news when I was a fan so casual viewers could never feely truly connected to the sport like they can now.’’
The NFL have held three games in England this year and have announced plans to do the same in 2016.
