The closure of St Mark Street in Lincoln is causing major disruption during February half term.

The road, near to the city centre, closed on Monday 15 February and is causing major delays. The road closures are part of a £22 million Lincoln East West Link Road Scheme.

The road will be closed to east bound traffic from 6am till 7pm daily, and vehicles will be diverted both ways at Ropewalk to Brayford Wharf East. Yesterday cars that were stuck in traffic jams were made to take different routes in Brayford Ward East. The westbound lane is still open for use.

Brayford Wharf East traffic is been diverted to Wigford Way and then onto St Mary’s Street, so drivers can use the High Street. Motorists will though have to go round the former site of the grand hotel to gain access. There is also an overnight closure on the High Street for up to six weeks. The closure has been put into place to improve road surfaces and new road markings.

The East West Link Road is a two year project that will link the High Street at its junction with Tentercroft Street to Pelham Bridge and Canwick Road.

The new road will help  the area as by removing the need for traffic to cross the High Street level crossing, which can cause long delays. When the work has been completed the new road will allow the High Street from St Mary’s to St Mark’s street to be pedestrianised. It will help people in the city centre gain easier access from the shopping area to the north of the level crossing.
