A group of residents is against proposed cuts to fire-fighter numbers.
The proposals, following a consultation by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue which have been labelled as “devastating” by residents in the area near Lincoln South fire station, plan to almost half the number of fire-fighters on duty at the station.
There are currently 24 fire-fighters employed at Lincoln South, manning the base 24 hours a day. However under the new proposals, this number would be cut to 13 fire-fighters, who would only be on duty during the day and on call within five minutes at night. This is all done in an effort to save funds.
Concerned residents have set up a Facebook page dedicated to bringing awareness to the proposals, which has garnered over 1,400 likes in the three days since being posted.
They argue that by virtually halving the amount of fire-fighters on duty, they are presenting a great public safety risk and endangering lives.
