North Hykeham RUFC are “determined to put things right” after two back to back losses in the league.
That’s according to prop forward Harry Conti, who believes his teammates can still achieve their goal of promotion to the Midlands 4 North division.
The team, who went into Saturday’s match still reeling from a 55-0 defeat the previous week, slipped to another disappointing loss, going down 20-0 to undefeated Sileby Town.
It also means North Hykeham have, for the second week in a row, failed to muster a single point on the scoreboard.
It is an alarming slump in form compared to earlier in the season, where they won 5 out of their 7 games in the months of September and October.
But Conti was quick to stress his teammates won’t let it affect their confidence: “As a team we all know it’s not good enough,” he said.
“We all want to get promoted and be successful.
“Next week we’ve got Birstall (2nd in the league) so we need to up our performance and hopefully that will be enough.”
Despite two defeats on the spin, North Hykeham find themselves sitting in 4th place but worryingly, are already 9 points behind leaders Sileby Town and Birstall.
“We’ve only played five games in the league so far so we’re confident we can make the gap up,” said Conti.
“There’s also our big cup game to look forward to against Cleethorpes which we’re all buzzing for that at the moment.
“It’s only our second season back in the semi professional leagues so we can’t be too hard on ourselves.”
