A Phoenix NHS Health shop is due to open on Friday February 5th offering easy access to stop smoking material, lifestyle tips and weight management information.
The old Tourist Information building in the town centre will become this one stop health shop and will be opened by Lincoln MP Gillian Merron, who is also the Minister of State for Public Health.
There will also be an opportunity for young people to get information about Chlamydia and be able to request self-testing kits when in the shop.
The NHS Health Shop has been set up following the success of the Lincoln Stop Smoking Shop in City Square, which opened in 2008. The Stop Smoking Shop offers free specialist advice and says it is “up to four times more effective than willpower alone.”
Gary Burroughs, Tobacco Control Strategy Manager of Phoenix, said: “The Phoenix NHS Health Shop will provide more accessible and professional healthy lifestyle services to all residents of Lincoln wanting support. If you want to stop smoking, lose weight or seek advice and support around Chlamydia, an NHS professional will be available at all times – It couldn’t be easier.”
It is also hoped that the new shop will give people the opportunity to meet others who have similar concerns and create a support group with help from staff.
