The Top 5 Underrated Series To Watch On Netflix During Lockdown

These less-heralded shows will provide for hours of entertainment.

By this point, you will have probably all exhausted the various trending series available to binge-watch on Netflix. If, like many, you watched the entirety of Tiger King within 48 hours; there’s a chance that this list of underrated Netflix series will stop you from climbing the walls:

5: 60 Days In

This tense, but enthralling docu-series follows the experiences of normal civilians volunteering to go undercover within the American prison system. One full series is available for consumption already, as life behind Indiana’s Clark County Jail is brought into the spotlight. Violence and drug use are themes throughout, leaving it most likely unsuitable for children. There are 14, one hour episodes to enjoy; which will hopefully see you through to Wednesday.

4: Unforgotten

It is often the case that crime dramas operate around the mystery of which character is guilty of the offence. Unforgotten is a breath of fresh air, introducing the guilty parties whilst following the investigations of two detectives (Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar) towards its’ climactic end. This abnormal approach to a classic genre is a breath of fresh air and its’ raw, emotional storytelling will have you scratching your head at why you hadn’t watched it earlier.

3: Travelers

Have you ever known a person to seemingly change overnight with little to no explanation? This capturing, cliff-hanger laden series provides a possible explanation. Time-travellers descend upon the 21st century to try and stop the future they came from, under the direction of a super-intelligent AI. If you enjoy sci-fi and have a penchant for saying, “just one more before bed”, then Travelers is the one for you. There are three series available to binge already; that’s roughly 32 hours of boredom cured with the click of a button.

2: Orphan Black

This series will have you gripped at every twist and unexpected turn; it earns its’ place at second in the list due to the incredibly diverse character portrayals of Tatiana Maslany. It is surprising considering that her performance won an Emmy in 2016, that so many people have not given this series a chance. Maslany plays the roles of no less than 14 separate clones as the reason behind their existence unravels. Beneath the Netflix trending bracket of After Life and The Last Kingdom, this show is a brilliant and engaging piece. There’s also 5 series available; in these testing times, that amount of bulk-available distraction is a god-send.

1: Manhunt: Unabomber

At the top of this list is without a doubt Manhunt. Crime-solving investigators are a staple theme for many of the most-loved series ever created; from Sherlock Holmes to Mindhunter, there are several already on Netflix. However, Manhunt: Unabomber is a less-heralded series that packs an incredible amount of suspense and psychological thrill into its’ two series worth of entertainment. The plot follows FBI profiler, James Fitzgerald, as he hunts down the infamous Unabomber using unorthodox methods. The dramatised production of real events is both terrifyingly exciting and close to the bone.
