Napoleon filming at Lincoln Cathedral: “It’s not helped us in any way whatsoever and I can’t wait for it to be done”

Ridley Scott’s new Napoleon biopic is being filmed at Lincoln Cathedral, but one businessman has said it has affected sales at his pub.

Nico, assistant manager of the Magna Carta pub which is located next to the Cathedral, said “We have definitely had fewer sales during the week of the filming.”

“For St Patricks Day the place is normally a lot busier than this, it is very quiet. I’ve already reduced staff numbers because I’m not going to be able to afford to pay them.”

He added: “The lower foot fall is due to the fact that the parking has been heavily restricted around the Cathedral since the preparation of the filming started.”

Statistics on filming at Lincoln Cathedral

Hollywood stars are visiting Lincoln Cathedral to start the filming of Oscar winner Scott’s Napoleon Bonaparte biopic. Academy Award winner and Joker star Joaquin Phoenix is taking the title role and will be in Lincoln on March 17 and 18.

It is the first time since the filming of The DaVinci Code in 2005 that Academy Award winners Tom Hanks and Sir Ian McKellen have filmed in Lincoln, and there were numerous visitors to the Cathedral who were excited about the filming.

One visitor, Katherine, said: “It was nice seeing people that are not from Lincoln visiting the Cathedral, it is really exciting for Lincoln. I think more people will visit and see how amazing the Cathedral is.”
