Sam Cage, 23, is a marketing officer at Lincoln Cathedral
Q. What’s your favourite thing about living in Lincoln?
A: If I had to pick a single thing it would be Lincoln Cathedral. It’s something that I remember visiting from my childhood. Even now, I’ve been working here for a year and a half and I’m still finding things out about the building that I never knew. Like things discovered by the stonemasons. There’s usually always a lot of stories.
Q: What’s your favourite place to go in Lincoln? And why?
A: I’m quite a fan of Hartsholme Country Park – it’s a pretty simple place to go. When you’re in a city, I do find it difficult to get back to nature whereas Hartsholme does feel a bit more like the countryside. I’d say it’s probably one of the most peaceful places in Lincoln, which is why I like to go there quite a bit.
Q: What would be your perfect Saturday in Lincoln?
A: I’d start somewhere foodie. Mowgli’s has just opened. I’m a big fan of going there. Then something simple in the afternoon like a walk, again to Hartsholme Park. Later in the night, maybe Carousel for the games at the back and upstairs, then I think I’d finish with a visit to Speakeasy which is by Home. It’s one of the few places in Lincoln that is a quiet place to drink. If there’s still time, go to the gaming bar Akedo, and then bed because I’m an old soul and I can’t stay out long.
Q: If you could change one thing about Lincoln, what would it be?
A: The only wrong thing about Lincoln is that it’s far from everywhere else. It’s a good while to get to a decent motorway and most other cities, if you’re going on a weekend, will take at least an hour and a half to get to. It’s still doable, I just find it annoying. I wouldn’t say no to a decent music arena though, most of the time I have to go to Birmingham, which is certainly not close. I don’t know where you’d put it but at least the castle is now starting to do concerts.
