Lincoln has been given a major boost with the news that the Olympic Torch will be arriving in the City next summer.
The City of Lincoln Council has organised an event to mark the torch’s arrival at the Yarborough Leisure Club on Wednesday 27th June 2012.
Although the details of the event are yet to be announced, it is hoped that thousands of people will flock to the Leisure Centre to catch a glimpse of the flame before it leaves the City on Thursday 28th June to continue its route to Nottingham.
Caroline Ashman, from the City of Lincoln Council, believes that the arrival of the torch is great news for the people of Lincoln:
“It’s absolutely fantastic that the flame is coming to Lincoln,” she said.
“It really makes Lincoln a part of the Olympics and gives people the chance to be part of the Olympics and all of the things that the games embody including friendship, community spirit and sporting challenge. It’s just fantastic, it’s really going to put Lincoln on the map.”
