Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn holds onto his seat of Islington North with a 26,000 majority.
In a speech, Corbyn says ‘a very heartfelt thanks to the people of Islington North for reelecting me again for the 10th time’.
In the election campaign labour say they put forward a ‘manifesto of hope, a manifesto of unity and a manifesto that would help to right the wrongs and injustices and inequalities that exist in this country’.
Jeremy Corbyn says that the Brexit debate has affected the results of labour ‘across the country’.
‘I will not lead my party in any future election campaign, I will lead the party while a discussion takes place to ensure what is going to happen in the future’. Says Corbyn.
Corbyn will stay with the party for the time being to lead the party in what he calls a process of reflection.
‘I will remain the MP for Islington North and I will be proud to remain the MP of Islington North.’ he says.
