Local pharmacies “astounded” with level of donations received for Ukraine appeal.

Two weeks after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, 49 Co-op branches in Lincolnshire have been astounded by the amount of donations for Ukrainian refugees in Europe.

Emma Snedden, communications officer at the Co-operative Lincolnshire said: “We have been absolutely delighted with the level of donations we’ve received from local communities”

“We’ve been astounded by the generosity of the people of this area and their donations are really making a difference.”

Lincolnshire Co-op have been receiving donations from people in and around the county since 2 March, 2022.

Female sanitary products, pain relief medication and children’s toiletries are all items the Co-op have been appealing for in their support for the collection organised by the Polish School, Lincoln.

The Newland Street Co-op branch are currently supporting a collection by the Polish School, Lincoln.

Other people in Lincoln have also been donating to Ukraine via personal appeals on social media platforms.

Kornelija Gri, a 25-year-old warehouse operator, donated two plane tickets from Krakow to London Stansted airport completely free of charge after she and her partner were advised against taking their trip to Poland.

She said: “Me and my partner over a month ago planned a trip to go to Auschwitz and when the Russian invasion of Ukraine happened it shocked me a lot, it’s a really bad situation out there”

“We decided to cancel [our] holiday because it was unsafe to go.”

Kornelija said the tickets were not expensive, but regardless of their price she would have donated them anyway.

“If you can help someone, why not?” She said.

The Newland Street Co-op branch is continuing to collect donations in store but monetary donations cannot be accepted. More information about the appeal can be found at: https://www.lincolnshire.coop/news-and-blogs/support-forukraine
