A local library is set to hold a health day as part of a new national information pilot scheme.
Birchwood Library has been chosen to host the first event, where there will be a variety of activities to try out. Charities will be there with information on living a healthy lifestyle.
Nicky Grigg, the event organiser says: “It’s a special morning with lots of healthy things like Wii Fitness, new age kurling and you can come and have a body MOT.” Age UK, First Contact, Phoenix Stop Smoking, the Samaritans and Healthy Walks will also be at the event.
Mrs Grigg explains why Birchwood Library was chosen as the first venue for the event: “Unfortunately, Birchwood has quite a high level of deprivation in the area which means that people are not getting the best out of their lives.”
“If the (event) gets a good response then this pilot will go out to every library in Lincolnshire, so we will all be able to walk into a library, press a button on the computer and find out where the nearest dentist is and GP surgeries” says Mrs Grigg.
The scheme which is working in partnership with Derbyshire Country Council, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, aims to get the community to use their libraries to access the NHS Choices website. It is currently being trialled in two libraries in each county.
The Health Day is on 17 March at Birchwood Library in Lincoln from ten am until one pm.
