Lincoln businesses are stepping up to make sure children are fed during the half term and seeing huge success and support.
Carholme Chippy and Rising Café are giving away free meals this half term to children who would usually be eligible for them at school.
Following the government’s decision not to provide free meals to children throughout the holidays, they’re taking matters into their own hands.
Carholme Chippy were originally providing this service until October 30, but thanks to support from the community this has been extended to November 1.
To cover the cost, they’ve been asking for donations and have seen so much generosity that parents can now enjoy a hot meal with their kids.
Owner of the fish and chip shop, Nick Avraam said: “We have a lot of customers that come in who are struggling, that was our inspiration.”
Nick said the response has been “totally overwhelming” and said, “If we had to do it again then we wouldn’t think twice about it.”
Rising Café are also supporting children who may otherwise go without from October 26 to October 30.
They’re offering two free kid’s meals with every adult meal purchased.
Allison Stibbard is the manager at Rising Café, she said they have been receiving donations and lots of support.
Allison said the Café would “do it again if the government don’t change their minds.”
She added “How can you not give back to the community” who she says has supported them during the pandemic.”
