Today, there are more than 6,000 young carers in Lincolnshire. By definition, a young carer is a child under 18 who cares for a relative or loved one.
Recently, the Government has recognised this group of children as a ‘vulnerable group’ in the The Children and Families Act and Care Act 2014. Schools are also catching on and creating programmes to support young carers. Ermine Primary School has had the longest running programme in Lincolnshire, and is now considered a trailblazer site in the country.
