Lincolnshire Police are using a location app, which can help them find people who are lost in remote locations.

The app, called ‘What3Words’, uses a grid of three by three meter squares, each of which contains three unique words.

Chief Inspector Steve Williamson, from Lincolnshire Police, said: “The police are us

ing this technology to enable us to pinpoint someone’s location really quickly.

“That means that we can get to them much quicker than if someone was stuck in a field and tried to describe where they were.”

The app can help the police in several situations where they may need to reach people in a short space of time.

Chief Inspector Steve Williamson said: “Recently, we have used this application for people at the scenes of road traffic accidents , and for people who have gone missing.”

If you are in distress and cannot describe your location the What3Words app is available to download for Android and Apple devices.
