A second consecutive terminated season would be “farcical” and financially damaging, say the chairmen of two Lincolnshire non-league clubs.
Amid another national COVID-19 lockdown, many semi-professional teams haven’t played since November, with only “elite” football like the Premier League and EFL allowed to continue.
The Northern Premier League is proposing another cancelled season, but clubs have warned this must include promotions and relegations.
Lincoln United Women didn’t win their division last season due to null and void and are unbeaten in the current campaign.
Lee Griffin, Lincoln United chairman, said: “They’ve sat top of their league for the last two seasons, undefeated, with some very heavy wins.
“Winning matches is all well and good, but you’re working towards a competition.
“If it keeps becoming null and void, then it makes it all a bit farcical.”
The FA has asked clubs to give their opinions on null and void, as well as any suggestions of a better option.
Richard Kane, Gainsborough Trinity chairman, recently wrote a letter supporting the combination of the last two seasons on a points-per-game basis.
But Kane is worried about the impact on next season and said: “The finances bother me immensely.
“I’ve got my eye on next season and am thinking ‘how am I going to go to a shirt sponsor and ask if they’ll sponsor us again?’
“They’re just going to ask what have they got for their money this year.”
