A large group of Brownies, Scouts and Guides had a parade on April 23rd in celebration of St George’s Day in Lincoln. St George’s day is celebrated by specific denominations of Christianity to honour Saint George, who is the patron Saint of England.
The annual parade takes place on the same day each year and it began at 1pm on Union Road on the lawns, they paraded to the castle and the cathedral before ending at 4pm that day. Road closures took place between 12pm and 4pm to allow the parade to pass through the roads safely. The sun came out for this particular march and a large crowd of spectators gathered at 1pm to watch the march and stayed to show support.
Children as young as 5 were involved in the march, led by their teachers. There were also teenagers drumming ‘The Lord of the Dance’ as they marched. Altogether the parade consisted of 1,500 people, including drummers and scout leaders, who carried flags during the march.
St. George’s day is celebrated on April 23rd of annually and marks the day of his death.
