Charity Age UK Lincoln has founded the area’s first inter-generational talent show amid fears younger generations don’t understand the needs of older people.
The Age on the Stage event held auditions this January and announced the acts going into the final this week.
Competitors had to audition in pairs with an age difference of more than 15 years. The biggest age gap through to the final is a woman of 101 performing with a girl aged four.
Katie Graham, founder of the Age on the Stage competition, said: “We think one of the best things to come from the event is that young people have to consider what their older partners need.”
Graham added that Age UK Lincoln hopes the scheme will help limit loneliness among Lincolnshire’s older generation, although admitted that this is an ongoing task.
Art and crafts opportunities help older generations keep their minds active and help them to get involved in their communities, Age UK Lincoln said.
Age on the Stage will be made an annual fixture if enough tickets are sold.
Tickets, priced from £13 upwards, are now on sale for the final, which will take place at the New Theatre Royal on Saturday February 22. Call the theatre box office on 01522 519999.
