Lincoln – Purple Flag

Lincoln can now add another honour to its already long list – that of the esteemed “Purple Flag Award”.

The award, which has recently been given to five new UK cities, acknowledges the city as a leading light in a new central government iniative to offer a welcoming centre for visitors.

Council and city initatives – such as that of litter picking, street pastors, increased PCSO presence and the city’s new pub watch scheme have been major contributing factors in the award. As a purple flag city Lincoln can expect to attract a wider ranger of visitors which will work wonders in increasing the city’s tourist revenue.

Daniel Pasha, who lives near the city’s Gresham Road area, felt that the city was very deserving of the award: “Lincoln is definitely one of the safest cities I’ve been to which, in this day and age, is a very important factor in deciding where to live. So the fact that this has now been officially recognised is going to continue to improve the city’s reputation”.

The award will be presented at a special ceremony in Bristol this July.
