A new foodbank has opened on the Ermine Estate in Lincoln after a charity has seen a rise in demand for its service.
The group opening the foodbank, the Lincoln Community Larder, will open the new site at St John the Baptist Parish Church Hall on Laughton Way on Wednesdays. It will open between 9:30 to 10:30am.
By doing this the Larder hopes to reach as many people as possible across Lincoln, that’s according to one of its volunteers John Tyler.
John Tyler, said: “Ideally everyone would benefit from food banks that are closer to where they live…but if you can’t afford to buy food or perhaps pay for the bus fare or fuel for the car…then that creates a problem between not being able to reach our sites because of where you live.”
Mr Tyler is worried though that their stocks might not always last because of the amount of people who use their food banks increasing over the past six months, .
“Today our shelves were on their way to being quite depleted…so there are locations where we do need increased donations.”
