Lincoln Basketball: “We’ve seen a massive rise in interest.”

Participation in the sport has seen record highs.

FLYING HIGH: The Central Venue League has become a staple of Lincoln Basketball

A RISE in basketball participation is taking place across the nation. New research supports basketball taking its place as one of Britain’s favourite sports. The Department of Culture and Media Sport cites basketball as the second most popular sport played by 11–15-year-olds beating out the likes of cricket.

Lincolnshire is no exception to this trend. Both adults and youth groups have seen an uptake in basketball interest.

Shane Pickering is a volunteer with Lincoln Basketball. He Said: “We have seen a massive rise in the last few years despite being a footballing nation. But we still don’t see as much funding compared to traditional sports.”

Lincoln Basketball hosts the Central Venue League including teams such as the Tropics, Hawks, Lightning, Bombers, Oddities and Newark BC.
