Sleaford Town FC’s young winger Jake Ellis has decided to leave the football club following a lack of starts this season.
The 20-year-old winger who only made six appearances last season has struggled to make it into the starting line-up this season.
Ellis has played for Sleaford Town since the Under 9’s team, working his way up through the age groups and often found himself playing in teams made up of players who were older than him.
Jake Ellis said: “I’ve been at the club for a very long time and I’ve really enjoyed my time here. I’ve always aimed to do my best, even when I was playing for the youth teams, I always wanted to play against the next team up. But now I want to move on and try something else, which won’t involve football anymore other than watching it.”
Sleaford’s last game ended with a 5-0 defeat to local rivals Holbeach United, which left out Ellis from the bench and the starting line-up.
“It’s just a part of football, whether you find yourself on the bench or not. You’ve just got to work your way off it or onto it. I’ve got nothing left to offer the team, so it feels like the right time I left and moved on,” Ellis added.
Sleaford Town have had a mixed season so far, including the FA Cup incident against Huntingdown Town, which saw a shock exit for both teams following a mass brawl in the at Eslaforde Park. The Football Association also rejected their appeal to be reinstated, as Sleaford were leading the game 2-1 before the event occurred in the 87th minute.
Sleaford Town currently lie in 15th place in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties
League, three places above Boston Town.
