With summer around the corner and temperatures rising, some of us are tossing and turning at night due to the heat.
If you’re struggling to get shut-eye during these warm evenings, we have some tips that may help keep you and your room cool.
The most obvious is to open your windows. Especially an hour before sleep, open windows help cool air to circulate around the room. Using a fan can also help to blow cool air.
In addition to this, closing your curtains prevents the strong daytime sunlight from raising the room temperature. You may need to open and close different curtains throughout the day as the sun rises and sets.
Avoiding alcohol before bed in this heat is also a good idea. However, if you do, keep a glass of water close by to help with dehydration during the night.
On the other hand, hot drinks like tea and coffee help to control body temperature keeping it low, though not too close to bed as the caffeine may keep you up.
A lukewarm shower is beneficial before bed as it opens the pores and allows the body to sweat, decreasing body temperature and aiding with sleep.
If you’re still finding it hard to sleep, don’t worry, the human body can deal with two poor nights of sleep without any effects and by the third night, you’ll be so tired you’ll fall asleep early anyway whatever the weather.
