How to laugh your way to better health

Have a chuckle and feel better with laughter yoga

Whilst coronavirus lockdown restrictions are expected to begin lifting soon, there’s still a long way to go before things feel ‘normal’ again.

According to a survey by the Office for National statistics, almost 20% of people met the criteria for depression, based on their responses, in June 2020.

With this in mind, it’s important to try and be healthy and optimistic as the end of lockdown nears.

Tess Sanderson, owner of In The Laughter Locker – Find Your Happy, holds virtual laughter yoga sessions to spread positivity whilst encouraging activity.

She said: “If you laugh you will trigger the endorphins in your brain, and you will instantly start to feel better.

“Even five minutes of exercise a day will make a difference.”

Tess’ laughter yoga has proved a hit with many of her viewers, one being Tim Atkinson, a Boston-based writer.

He said: “I have suffered with chronic psoriatic arthritis for 20 years and I do have pain as a result of that.

“I’d never heard of laughter yoga before. You do feel a tiny bit ridiculous at first, but it really does help with my pain and it improves my mood.”
