The new manager of Gainsborough Trinity Women FC has a tough task to fulfil the ambitions of the club.
The Holy Blues have been provisionally accepted in the Lincolnshire County League from the beginning of next season.
There is no start date for the beginning of the upcoming season, however the side will be kicking-off from step seven of the league pyramid.
Brad Wright, 25, is the Community Football Lead at the club. He confirmed the club are still on the lookout for the right candidate, however there is not yet a rush to appoint their manager.
Wright said: “We will be looking for someone to come in who’s had the experience to take the team on to try and progress.
“We want somebody who will get on with the players to bring them on as a team and to challenge as high as they can.”
Despite strong competition on and off the pitch from local rivals such as Lincoln City and Lincoln United, Wright has ambitious aims for the club.
“Short term, we want to get out of the first division as quickly as we can,” he said. “We want a team that’s going to be competitive and a manager who is going to be dedicated.
“Long term, we want to take the steps further and further, but the short-term goal is to get out of this first league and into the regional leagues,” he added.
The chairman of Gainsborough Trinity, Richard Kane, echoes Wright’s ambitions.
He said: “We’re not looking at doing a basic ladies’ football team, we want to develop and push on.
“It’s not like we’ve ran in the past where it’s been something to fill a bit of time, this is something a little more than that.”
The Holy Blues have been without a women’s team for two and a half years. However, the club believe it is the right time to reintroduce the female side to the town.
Wright says the creation of the women’s side is more exciting than before.
“I was here a few years ago when we first set this up and it hit off really well,” he said.
“It’s going to be completely different this time. We’ve got our own facilities so we’re not having to hire places out so it’s more exciting than last time.”
