EXCLUSIVE: LSJ Sport Interview – Gary Mills leaves Lincoln City

Club captain Mills revealed talks about his departure were well under way before new manager Gary Simpson was appointed.

Mills left the club on Monday following a long absence due to a serious knee injury. He is now hoping to continue his rehabilitation at Lilleshall, a sports rehabilitation clinic in Shropshire.

Mills hadn’t played for the Imps since mid December and said his departure had nothing to do with the club but some people within it.

The former captain was unable to disclose the reasons as to why he was in talks with club directors but assured us that the club had acted with the upmost respect to his wishes. However, he does feel like he was let down by some people at the club.

“Not by the chairman and not by the manager but maybe one or two people at the club. I feel like they may have gotten above themselves but I think the chairman has acted outstandingly and I haven’t had many dealings with the new manager.

“Conversations had been ongoing after the Barrow game I had a conversation with a board member regarding my future and it’s gone on since then.”
