People up and down the country have stocked their shelves in preparation for Pancake Day 2016.
The name Shrove Tuesday originates from the traditions of Christians trying to be ‘shriven’ before Lent.
Shriven means absolution for sins by doing penance.
Pancakes came later as a method of using up rich foods before the 40 day fasting on Ash Wednesday.
Eggs, milk and sugar weren’t traditionally eaten in fasting season so they needed to be used.
If you are planning to celebrate Pancake Day then here’s a recipe to make the perfect pancake. Add toppings to your desire.
