The scheme will take funding decisions for certain services out of the hands of local and national authorities and into the hands of county-wide authorities.
“Public services will give better value for money, be more transparent and more effective. Community based budgets will significantly contribute to the government’s aim to make organisations more accountable and efficient, without duplication,” said Councillor Martin Hill, Leader of Lincolnshire County Council
Tony McArdle, Chief Executive of Lincolnshire County Council, added: “Under the present financial constraints this is a very positive move forward for the council and its partners.
“We provide services to hundreds of thousands of people in Lincolnshire and by directing resources to where they are most needed we will ensure funding works more effectively,” he said.
This boost of funding to one of the UK’s poorer regions should ease the pain of the savage cuts made by the government yesterday, which with thousands of public sector jobs to be lost in the region, will be facing a difficult task to haul itself out of turmoil.
