The Celebration of Farming event returned to Boston for its third year – showcasing the importance of agriculture as the uncertainty of Brexit hangs over the area.
The free day-long event, which was organised by Boston Borough Council was attended by people from across the county and proved another success. They enjoyed farm animals, crafts, tractor rides and food tasting.
The event returned this year after it was cancelled in 2018 when the Beast from the East hit the country.
Events organiser for Visit Boston UK, Kristina Willoughby, said: “Over the years, the event has not only grown in size but also in support. Last year we were hit by the Beast of the East so had to cancel, it was nice this year to be back up and running and see so many old and new faces participating in the event.
“The atmosphere was electric, the Market Place was buzzing and the petting zoo was a massive hit with the children. People are already keen to see what we have planned for the 2020 Celebration of Farming event.”
With the prospect of Brexit still unknown, and Boston being the largest leave vote coming from Boston…the future of Boston’s farming town remains unclear.
Local farmer Glenys Butler said: “With Brexit now, I think everyone just wants an answer. For now, we are just continuing to provide our services and that’s all we can do until we know what path we are heading down, whether that be with a deal or without.”
The event was funded by the Boston Town Area Committee and supporters included Lincolnshire Preservation Group, NFU Mutual and The Sheep Show.
