Latest Lincoln restaurant closure hits student workers

Part-time jobs on Brayford lost as burger chain folds

The closure of a restaurant chain on the Brayford Waterfront has left students struggling to find work in Lincoln.

Many students need part-time jobs to support their life while at university. Retail, restaurants and leafleting are among the popular choices for students who study full time.

Handmade Burger Co went into administration last month, forcing the closure of the Lincoln branch. University of Lincoln Student Elliot Oliver lost his job as a waiter as a result of the shutdown.

Elliot said: “I was shocked when I was told Handmade Burger was closing. I’ve worked there for about two years now, as I started when I was in my first year of uni.

“It’s a shame to see the place close down. I’ve made some good friends there. I’m still looking for another job but finding it hard to find something that fits around my lectures and uni work. There’s not much opportunity for me.”

Eighteen restaurants in the UK have closed recently with more than 280 jobs lost. Other chain restaurants also struggling, including such as Prezzo and Chimichanga, which also had a branch on the Brayford Waterfront.
