Prime Minister Gordon Brown has told Afghan President Hamid Karzai that Britain “cannot, must not and will not walk away” from its mission in Afghanistan.

In a speech, Mr Brown said he will not put UK troops “in harm’s way for a government that does not stand up against corruption”.

The Prime Minister was outlining the government’s position on the ongoing conflict that has claimed the lives of six British soldiers including two from Lincolnshire in the past week.

The Lincolnshire soldiers, Grenadier Guardsman Jimmy Major and Sergeant Matthew Telford, were shot dead alongside three of their colleagues in Helmand Province on Tuesday.

Peter Smith, a visiting Lecturer of Politics and Media at the University of Lincoln spoke to CityVibe@5’s Adrian Bell to give his opinion.
