Sales in retail saw an increase of just over 5% for the first month of 2015 compared to January in 2014, in new figures released today by the Office for National Statistics.
The increase compared to December for last month however, saw a decrease in the amount of retail sales of 0.3%.
This is not surprising as pre-Christmas sales saw enormous amounts of retail spending with events such as Cyber Monday and Black Friday.
Non seasonal data also shows that the average weekly spend for retail products also increased by £2 million to £6.5 billion compared with the year before when it was just £6.3 billion.
