Petition opposing Veolia waste plant in Lincoln gains momentum

A petition opposing a waste plant in Lincoln has received over 500 signatures from local residents.

Many of them are opposing the plans as the waste plant will process industrial waste, producing solvent chemicals.

Proposals for the waste site on Long Leys Road were put forward by Veolia in October for a 24 hour waste site.

The proposed site for Long Leys Road waste plant.

Robert Parker is County Councillor for Lincoln West. He said: “Veolia’s application wants them to process 46 tonnes of waste, it’s in the middle of a residential area and we don’t think that’s a good idea.”

The consultation was extended until November 18th as people were only told about the plans a few days before.

A meeting will be held on the 16th January with the planning committee from Lincolnshire County Council, to decide whether the application will be accepted.

Emile van der Zee started the petition. He said: “We are in favour of recycling but not in a residential area, there are other options.”

The waste plant will see up to 60 lorries each day, increasing traffic and pollution in the area.
