A decision on the City of Lincoln Council’s legal high ban, is to be made at a full council meeting being held this evening.
The measure aims to reduce the amount of anti-social behavior within the city that stems from a result of taking “intoxicating” substances.
If the ban comes into affect it would mean people can “not ingest, inhale, inject, smoke or otherwise use intoxicating substances,” within the city centre or on the High Street.
Lincolnshire Police via twitter also commented that they were supportive of the legislation: “Police would also fully support a change in legislation around legal highs.”
This follows the endorsement of the proposals by members of the authority’s executive last month.
Once a decision has been made on the ban’s adoption, it would then become a criminal offence for anyone to breach the order by taking legal highs or alcohol.
Penalties would take the form of a fixed penalty notice or risk a fine in court. This ban would then be enforced by both police and council enforcement officers.
