To celebrate the end of the Great British Bake Off, by far the most popular show on BBC Two this year, well, for several in fact, we decided to see who was the best baker of the bunch in the newsroom.
We had very well risen muffins, banilla (banana and vanilla) cupcakes, lemon cake, gingerbread men, cookies, crumble and a mars bar/rice krispie combo.
Our fellow journalist, Daniel Baker, was one of the judges, alongside Sam Pidoux, assistant manager, and Francis, a PR student.
Cakes were judged on sponginess, taste, texture, looks, presentation and of course, “soggy bottoms”.
Helen the news editor today, said “this has been a way for all the journalists to show off their baking skills and see who can make the best cake in the newsroom, we had loads of fun making this segment and we hope the listeners will enjoy listening to it too.”
One of the bakers, Alex Johnson, was “concerned because I may have curdled this, I was trying my hardest but I think I just overdid it.”
Find out who is going home, who won “star baker” and who won the overall prize of City Vibe Bake Off champion at 5pm, only on City Vibe.
