Participants in the Dry January campaign and Dryathlon are nearing the end of their challenge this month. Many have chosen to stop consuming alcohol to raise awareness about the benefits of a teetotal lifestyle while fundraising for those affected by alcoholism.
Research recently released by Alcohol Concern, the organisation behind the campaign, reveals the benefits with 62% of last year’s participants sleeping better. Another 49% lost weight during the challenge.
Charlotte Gleeson, second year nursing student at the University of Lincoln, was one of many who omitted alcohol from their diet.
“I feel healthier and I don’t feel as groggy,” she said.
For Charlotte, the month has gone by quickly and she intends to have a decreased alcohol consumption after the challenge ends.
