Lincoln’s residents are smiling as the International Day of Happiness sweeps over the city.

The county’s SHINE network, which works to tackle mental health issues, has teamed up with local comedienne and motivational speaker, Kate Hull Rodgers. Together they are working to urge people suffering with anxiety and depression to think positive.

Currently a sufferer of Bipolar, Kate encourages people to have a little more laughter in the workplace. She said: “The philosophy is very simple. To be happy you have to act happy.”

Mike Martin, from SHINE, said: “To be happy, you have to be mentally healthy. With mental health being a traditionally taboo subject it is getting better and the Time To Change campaign is also certainly helping with that. It’s just about getting mental talked about.”

Millions of people across the world have already pledged to create more happiness by running
events, such as flash mobs, creative workshops and happiness café’s.

Kate Hull Rodgers explains what she’s doing to celebrate.
