Lincoln’s sustainable transport project has been shortlisted for the 2015 Smarter Travel Awards.
The Access LN6 programme has been nominated for the ‘Best Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) Project Team Award.’
The Lincoln based project will face competition from similar projects in Nottingham, Darlington and London for the award sponsored by the Department for Transport.
The new awards ceremony, that takes place in Birmingham, aims to help gain recognition for the effective delivery of more efficient and sustainable transport systems.
The £6.5 million project has ran for three years since 2012 and recieved funding from the Department for Transport’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund.
Hayley Cook, Spokesperson for Access LN6 said: “There’s about 20,000 cars going in and out of LN6 everyday so if are can reduce that number by encouraging more people to walk, cycle, use public transport that will not only relive the congestion on the road but its better for the environment and it’s healthier.”
Lincolnshire County Council delivered the programme in conjunction with Sustrans, North Kesteven District Council, City of Lincoln Council, public transport operators, Lincolnshire Sport and businesses in LN6.
Access LN6 will find out whether they have won the award at the Smarter Travel Conference on 5 February 2015.
