New obesity figures released by Public Health England for the first time ever, suggest that almost 60% of people living within Lincoln are either carrying excess weight or are medically obese.

Two hundred and forty people were included in the sample for the city and of this number 1 in 2 or 56.7% were recorded as being obese or overweight.

This comes after the announcement that fast food chain, Burger King, has begun trialing a fast food delivery service which would take people’s orders to their own houses which could mean these figures increase even more.

Public Health England defined excess weight for adults as those who have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of more than 25 kilograms.

However, around 40% of the Lincoln participants were considered to be a healthy weight whilst just under 2% were underweight.

Lincoln came in the bottom half of the list for local area who had overweight people. West Cumbria came top of the chart and the London boroughs Chelsea and Kensington were the area with the lowest percentage of overweight people.
